Pigmity would rather be corrected than be wrong quietly. This page explains how to report an error and what happens next.
How to report an error
Write to hello@pigmity.com with the page or institution, the fact that is wrong, what is correct, and, if you can, a link to where the correct figure is published.
The in-page report form is closed for now. It collected an optional contact address, and Pigmity had not chosen a storage service or a retention period for what it collected, so it stopped accepting submissions rather than hold personal information with nowhere to keep it (decision). Email reaches the same editor.
What happens to a report
An editor checks each report against a source.
- If a published source supports the correction, the fact is recorded as a new, dated reading, and the page shows the new value with its source.
- If it cannot be confirmed, the fact stays as it was. Where the report raises real doubt, the fact may be marked as partially verified or as conflicting.
The earlier reading is kept in the record either way. Pigmity does not overwrite what it previously published.
What Pigmity will not do
- Change a fact without a source for the new value.
- Accept payment, or any other consideration, for a correction.
- Treat an institution's own statement as verified before checking it against something the institution has published.
If you represent an institution
Point to the page on your own website, or the document you publish, that states the correct figure. Information you send is recorded as supplied by the institution until it can be checked against a published source.
Claiming a profile, if that becomes possible, will not make its facts verified. "Claimed", "updated by the institution" and "verified from a source" are recorded as three different things.
Please do not send
Account numbers, card numbers, Aadhaar, PAN, passbook images, or any customer's personal information. The form refuses reports that contain them, and Pigmity does not want them.
When a correction changes a conclusion
When a corrected fact changes what a page concludes, the page says what changed, rather than reading as though it always said the new thing. How facts are gathered and dated in the first place is set out in the methodology.
